Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Oxford Bible Church Services

Updated Saturday 13th March

National Lockdown - Services Continue

During this present nationwide lockdown, governement guidelines still permit Churches to continue holding Communal Services. The official government website states that: You can attend places of worship for a service. However, you must not mingle with anyone outside of your household or support bubble. You should maintain strict social distancing at all times.

For this reason, Sunday Services at Cheney School will continue at this time. If the government should change its guidelines we will respond accordingly. Do check this website and our Facebook page for all updates.

In line with the updated government guidelines for Churches, and after consultation with Cheney School, we are still meeting for Worship Services on Sundays at 11am. It is important that we adhere to the current guidelines and keep to social distancing measures when we gather together.

Please read the information below carefully, for full details of what to expect on Sunday mornings. Don't worry if you're not able to join us at Cheney School - as all Services are still Live Streamed on YouTube.

FROM SUNDAY 14TH MARCH & ONGOING

ARRIVAL & ENTRY TO CHURCH

Ushers will need to keep people at least 1.5 metres apart as you enter the building, so it may mean queuing briefly if many arrive at the same time. Of course, families and those from the same household can enter together.

Upon arrival, everyone must sanitise their hands using the sanitiser dispenser provided by the School or the Usher at the door.

To comply with the government NHS Test and Trace Service we will also need a record of all people who attend each week. On a slip of paper, one person from each household should write their name, phone no. and/or email address, plus the names of all other family/household members who are attending the Service. The date of the Service must also be on the slip. Slips will be collected by Ushers upon entry to the Church.

Blank Test and Trace slips are available in the Lobby, although to speed up entry we do encourage you to write the details at home and bring them with you to Church.

These details are kept securely by us for 21 days and then destroyed.

DURING THE SERVICE

* Face Coverings: The government regulations on face masks mean the wearing of them is enforceable by law, in all indoor spaces where there are people who do not normally meet (including places of worship). To comply with the regulations, we must ask that all people wear a face covering, covering the mouth and nose, while inside Cheney Hall (unless you have a medical condition which makes a mask inadvisable).

Masks are available in the Lobby if you need one and should be disposed of after the Service. As well as safety for oneself, the wearing of a face mask is also a demonstration of love for others, showing care and consideration for them.

* The chairs in the Main Hall will be set up 1m apart, but we would like couples, families and those from the same household to move their seats closer together. These family 'bubbles' will then increase the spaces between other chairs. Ushers are on hand to help you to your seats and oversee the seating arrangements if necessary.

* Although normal congregational singing is not allowed under current guidelines, one Worship Leader will lead at the front, with recorded songs played through the sound system. People can still sing softly unto the Lord, only it should be no louder than a normal speaking voice.

There will be an offering bucket and offering bag with an Usher at the door, where you may place your offerings. The offering bags will not be passed around the congregation as usual.

* There will be no teas/coffees, other consumables for now.

* After the Service we kindly ask you to leave the main hall quickly and exit the building, being sure to maintain social distance. This is a key requirement for us, under government guidelines.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH

* All Children's Church groups are holding Sunday Sessions, meeting in special Covid-safe classrooms on site. Children will join adults in the Main Hall for the Worship time at 11am before being dismissed to their classrooms.

Parents & Babies - The regular room for parents to take babies/toddlers is open

Kinder Church (ages 3-6), are meeting in their regular space in the Community Hall

Junior Church (ages 6-8) & Super Church (ages 8-13) are meeting in Lane Building as usual.

Youth Church (ages 13-17) are also meeting in a ground-floor classroom in the Lane Building

FURTHER POINTS

* There are currently no Evening Services, only the Service at 11am.

* The Main Hall, including all surfaces, door handles, chairs etc will be thoroughly cleaned & sanitised.

* Anyone who has symptoms (the recent onset of a new continuous cough, a high temperature or a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell) should not attend, nor should anyone who has been asked to self-isolate. Anyone who has been shielding, as per government guidelines, also anyone who has travelled in from abroad, must follow the relevant updated government advice.

* We understand that not everyone will be able to return to the Services at this time. You can still join us online, as Services will still be Live Streamed on YouTube each Sunday morning.

* Only the 11am Sunday Service is happening at Cheney School at this time. Other meetings, such as the Encounter Prayer Meeting on Fridays, remain closed. Also, until further notice, Home Groups will continue to meet online and with outdoor, socially distanced gatherings only.
