023. The Good Samaritan

Summary

In Luke 10:30-37 Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan in response to the questioning of a self righteous lawyer who asked Jesus how he could obtain eternal life. Jesus' response sets a high standard - that man should love God with all his heart and his neighbour as himself and that man is unable to save himself.

The Gospel is revealed in the Good Samaritan story - Jesus is the Good Samaritan and the man, beaten and left for dead, is Mankind. The road from Jerusalem to Jericho represents the fall of Man and Jesus as the Good Samaritan is the only One able to save the traveller (Mankind) from destruction.
